This large conger eel is only infrequently encountered at Kwajalein. We have seen them hunting for fish and crustaceans at night, but our only local photograph, the one figured immediately below, was hiding under a sheet of corrugated aluminum that had been blown into the lagoon by a storm. The other photos on this page are from the Philippines and Indonesia.

The one below was photographed at night at Bali, Indonesia.

The next one was taken at night at Anilao, Philippines. The eel takes on the gray banded color pattern at night; by day it is often nearly uniform gray.
