Echidna nebulosa (Ahl, 1789)
Snowflake moray, 100cm

We typically do not see many of these snowflake eels at diving depths around Kwajalein as they tend to prefer shallower water. We have seen them among coralheads close to the reef flat at low tide. For a period of time, there was a healthy population on a rubbly reef off the north end of Bigej Island at a depth of 5 to 8m. We dove this reef periodically, and they had appeared suddenly and a few months later disappeared just as suddenly.
