Gymnothorax pictus (Ahl, 1789)
Peppered moray, 140cm

This is a very common moray on the intertidal reef. At low tide, you can see them hunting in tide pools, often slithering across dry reef when moving from one pool to another. We typically do not see these while diving. The first photo below is by Stan Jazwinski.

The individual below, photograped by Christina Sylvester on the intertidal reef at Kwajalein, had darker and more distinct blotching than any other specimens we have seen.
