Gymnothorax undulatus (Lacepède, 1803)
Undulated moray, 150cm

Gymnothorax undulatus is common in holes and under large rocks on both lagoon and seaward reefs. They can often be seen out hunting sleeping fish at night on lagoon reefs. We have occasionally witnessed them grabbing fish, sometimes ones too large to eat, at night. Possibly dive lights disturb the prey, causing them to move a bit and revealing themselves to the prowling eel.
