Gymnothorax formosus Bleeker, 1864
Yellow moray, 120cm

Although not an exact match to the figure on Fishbase, this seems the most likely ID for this eel. In addition to the yellow head, it has a yellow trim to the tail (bottom photo), a character of G. formosus. We have seen a fair number of these, all along the lagoon reef between Bigej and Meck Islands at Kwajalein Atoll.

The one below was appeared to have its tail visible on the opposite side of the coralhead where it was residing. The tail has a bit of a yellow margin.
