At Kwajalein, these snake eels are most often seen at night, usually in sandy areas. Pretty much all we ever see is the head sticking up out of the sand, where it waits for prey to wander too near. Like many other animals, the Kwajalein specimens living in white coral sand tend to be lighter in color than those living in darker sand in Indonesia or the Philippines.
