Dactyloptena orientalis (Cuvier, 1829)
Helmet gurnard, 40cm

Dactyloptena orientalis is known from Kwajalein from a single specimen found on the lagoon side of Kwajalein by Marissa Brown and photographed below by Jay Lord. Compared to those we have seen in the Philippines and Indonesia, this was a rather small one and probably juvenile. Maximum size for this species is supposed to reach about 40cm but the single Kwajalein specimen was much smaller.
