Cirritichthys oxycephalus (Bleeker, 1855)
Coral hawkfish, 10cm

Cirritichthys oxycephalus lives on a variety of lagoon and seaward reefs. They are probably easiest to see on the seaward reeftop back from the steep outer slope at depths down to about 8m, although we have also seen them at the bottom of steep seaward reef cliffs at about 30m. They often hide in and around colonies of branching coral Pocillopora.

This reddish individual was photographed by Stan Jazwinski.
