Neocirrhites armatus Castelnau, 1873
Flame hawkfish, 9cm

We have not seen Neocirrhites armatus at Kwajalein or Enewetak Atolls where we have done most of our diving. However, Stan Jazwinski reported seeing many at Taongi, the northernmost atoll in the Marshalls and the closest to Wake Island, where this species is also known to be found. The specimen in the photos below is from Taongi, and the photos were taken with an old Hi8 video camera in an aquarium, so the resolution is not very high.
