Paracirrhites arcatus (Cuvier, 1829)
Arc-eye hawkfish, 20cm

Paracirrhites arcatus is very common at Kwajalein on a variety of lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. They are usually seen perched on coral or rocks and are generally easy to approach. In comes in lighter and darker color forms, some of the dark ones lacking the normal midlateral white stripe. Maximum length is reported to be about 20cm, although we have seen none anywhere near that large. Most of ours are less than 10cm.

A young individual on some coral that has suffered some bleaching from high water temperature.
