Paracirrhites hemistictus (Günther, 1874)
Whitespot hawkfish, 29cm

Paracirrhites hemistictus is moderately uncommon at Kwajalein, usually found up shallow on the seaward reef. In comes in a couple of different color forms.

The second color form is darker with a distinct white spot on the side.

Often the two color forms can be seen together.

The spotting on the body behind the head but on on the head suggests the fish below is a young, 35mm long Paracirrhites hemistictus. The photo was taken by Jay Lord in a channel on the seaward side of Kwajalein Island in about 2.5m of water.
