Pagurus sp. 1

Pagurus sp. 1 were found and photographed by Stan Jazwinski on the western seaward reef. One was in the shell of the stromb Canarium microurceus and another in a Harpa amouretta. The ID is from the hermit crab visual directory.

Sometimes these small, fast moving hermits will abandon their shell and scurry across the bottom, probably in a last ditch effort to escape a predator who might grab the shell.
