Gerres oyena (Forsskål, 1775)
Blacktip silver-biddy, 30cm

These silvery fish form small to large schools in shallow lagoon waters. They are reported to reach a maximum size of about 30cm, although these were in the 20-25cm range. The first two photos of adults were taken by Christina Sylvester off Kwajalein Island.

The small juveniles below are tidepool dwelling fish found along intertidal reefs. These were photographed in about 15cm of water by Jay Lord, who had to lie half in and half out of the water with his camera lens barely below water. Definitely not easy shots to get.
