This species is the most common of the sharpnose puffers at Kwajalein, and are often seen on seaward, lagoon and pinnacle reefs, frequently paired. Small juveniles are sometimes seen in large numbers in intertidal reef tidepools. We find the easiest way to distinguish them from Canthigaster janthinoptera is the spotted tail.
