Marshall Islands Remoras (Echeneidae)

Three species of the remora family have been observed at Kwajalein. Two species are usually seen swimming alongside of or attached to sharks and rays using a sucking disk on the top of the head. One of them, Remora remora, we have seen only rarely and only on the larger, open ocean Manta rays, and we do not have a photo. We have not seen the third species, Remora osteochir, but it has been reported from Majuro and reportedly usually attaches to large billfish such as Marlin.
