Carcharhinus falciformis (Bibron, 1841)
Silky shark, 350cm

These open-ocean sharks rarely come in to the reef, but are often seen offshore from fishing boats following schools of fish. We have seen groups of these at the surface near feeding fish schools just a couple of hundred meters off the edge of the seaward reef. They are reported to reach about 10 feet, or more than 3m, in length. Our photos were taken by Stan Jazwinski, swimming from a fishing boat over deep water outside Kwajalein Atoll.
