Urogymnus granulatus (Macleay, 1883)
Whitetail whipray

We have seen this large ray only twice here at Kwaj, one on the western seaward reef slope and the one photographed below on the top of one of the large pinnacle reefs lagoonward of Gea Pass. The mostly white tail is the easiest way to identify this species. These photos are captured from video and are therefore low resolution.
