Pastinachus ater (Macleay, 1883)
Fantail stingray, 183cm

The fantail stingray is usually seen on sandy and algae lagoon flats and slopes. Usually we see these less often than the pink whipray, but for some months there were at least 30 small individuals feeding in the shallow water of Kwajalein Harbor. Formerly called Pastinachus sephen, a species now considered confined to the Arabian peninsula.
