Periclimenaeus cf colodactylus Bruce, 1996
15mm

This small shrimp lives under thin layers of colonial tunicates that coat the undersurfaces of some rocks. They are usually pretty hard to discern but can be seen as fuzzy blobs that move around under the mostly transparent to translucent tunicates. Occasionally they will slip out under the edges of the tunicate colony, possibly to feed. The one in the first few shots below was carrying eggs. We have seen these on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs.

At the edge of the colonial tunicate colony.

Fully under the tunicates.
