Strahlaxiidae sp. 1
100mm?

This fairly large shrimp appears to belong to the family Strahlaxiidae. It lives in rather smooth holes on the seaward reef. The holes are common, but only occasionally do you see the shrimp looking out. They will sit at the hole's opening and grab drifting chunks of algae, which they will pull back into their hole, reappearing quickly to wait for more. You can "feed" them by dropping strands of Asparagopsis algae next to the hole as in the second photo below. I have seen a web photo of this as Neaxius acanthus, but it looks so little like the other one we have identified as that species that I feel it best to keep it separate.
