Lutjanus kasmira is sporadically common at Kwajalein, mostly on some lagoon and pinnacle reefs, where they form small to medium sized schools. Small young specimens that look like the adults will also school around some small coralheads along the lagoon interisland reef. Fishbase reports this species can reach about 40cm, although I don't think we have seen any that large.
Schools often intermingle with the more common Gnathodentex aureolineatus (Yellowspot emperor).
