Sargocentron spiniferum (Forsskål, 1775)
Sabre squirrelfish, 51cm

This is the largest of the squirrelfish at Kwajalein. They live on a variety of reefs, usually hiding in holes and overhangs, and are solitary or in very small groups. The large preopercular spine is reported to be venomous.

The large white spine on the lower portion of the gill plate is obvious in the photo below.
