Acanthurus olivaceus is common at Kwajalein on seaward, lagoon and pinnacle reefs. This is also sometimes called the orange-shouldered surgeonfish.

Individuals can quickly change color between light and dark phases.

Adults often form schools in shallow water.

Juveniles are yellow with the orange band still visible.
