Acanthurus thompsoni (Fowler, 1923)
Thompson's surgeonfish, 27cm

Acanthurus thompsoni is common at Kwajalein, usually schooling just over the dropoff on the steep seaward reef and lagoon pinnacle slopes. These schools often mix with groups of the similarly colored dameslfish Chromis xanthura, feeding primarily on zooplankton.

Below are mostly Chromis xanthura, a similarly colored damselfish with which Acanthurus thompsoni often schools.
