These unicornfish are characterized by the black spot on the caudal peduncle and a yellowish tail fin. They are either rare at Kwajalein, or have not previously been recognized. The individual in the first two photos was part of a group of four originally spotted on the seaward reef by Jeremy Owens. The photos are from Stan Jazwinski and Jay Lord.
The photos below by Jay Lord show the blotchy pattern on the male in pursuing and attempting to impress the female. These were on the seaward reef some distance from the original group.
We think the photo below shows a young Naso minor with night colors resting on the bottom. We have seen at least one published photo very similar to this as Naso thynnoides, but at Kwajalein, N. thynnoides seems to be restricted to large pinnacle reefs within the lagoon. This photo was taken on the seaward reef in the same vicinity that the Naso minor in the photos above were seen.
