Five species in the Malacanthidae are known from Kwajalein and the Marshalls. Except for Hoplolatilus cuniculus and H. marcosi, the others are all at least reasonably common in diving depths. Except for the largest one, Malacanthus latovittatus, they tend to dive into holes in the reef at the approach of divers. Unless otherwise noted, sizes given are maximum sizes for the species listed in Fishbase, not necessarily the size of the figured specimen.
