Sufflamen chrysopterum (Block & Schneider, 1801)
Flagtail triggerfish, 30cm

Sufflamen chrysopterum is typically a lagoon-dwelling trigger, common on shallow interisland reefs and lagoon pinnacles. They can also be seen on the seaward reef, particularly in shallow rubbly reef channels.

Next is a young specimen.

The juvenile is quite different in color.

We are tentatively calling the tiny specimen below a very juvenile Sufflamen chrysopterum.
