Cheilio inermis (Forsskål, 1775)
Cigar wrasse, 50cm

This elongate wrasse is uncommonly found on the seaward reeftop well back toward the reef from the knee of the drop. Individuals we have seen have been shy and keep their distance from the camera. Color is variable with some individuals a mottled brown.

This wrasse was swimming with or shadowing a similar looking goatfish, Parupeneus cyclostomus.

The next three photos were taken by Jay Lord in a patch of Halimeda algae on the lagoon side of Kwajalein Island.
