Purpuradusta fimbriata
(Gmelin, 1791)
Fringed cowry, 14mm
Purpuradusta fimbriata
is a common small species in Hawaii, often found under rocks and in ledges and
caves at night on many subtidal reefs. It is widespread in the Indo-Pacific
and geographic variants have been split into several subspecies, the Hawaiian
one being Purpuradusta fimbriata unifasciata. There is another photo
of a Hawaiian specimen on the Talostolida
pellucens page.

We have also seen subspecies P.
fimbriata marmorata in the Marshall
Islands.
