Chicomurex laciniatus (Sowerby, 1841)
49.85mm
Chicomurex
laciniatus is rather
rare in the Marshalls. Aside from one large living animal observed on an Enewetak
Atoll lagoon pinnacle in 1982, most of our sightings have been small specimens
in lagoon Halimeda patches at Kwajalein. Like many of the Chicoreus,
it is usually covered with what appears to be a red sponge that sometimes wears
off in older specimens.
Appears to be drilling a vermetid
tube.
With a bivalve shell cemented to
the spire.
The larger specimen below was found
at Enewetak Atoll.
