These rather large muricids are common, most often found intertidally out near
the outer edge of the reef, or on shallow subtidal seaward reefs. They tend
to be heavily encrusted and as very thick, heavy shells, are not often preyed
upon, so they are usually out in the open.
The one below was tilted up and
found to be preying upon a small giant clam, Tridacna maxima.
