These two tiny juveniles (maybe 35mm) were observed in a lagoon algae patch. Tridacna squamosa is the yellow one in the upper part of the photo, while the lower one is T. gigas. Note that as very small juveniles, the shells look quite a bit alike, especially in the presence of thin flutes. T. gigas loses those as it grows. The ID was confirmed by the animal; although not really visible in the photo, under magnification the T. gigas had the beginnings of its characteristic blue rings.
