Kwajalein Coral Bleaching, 2013
Here are just a few examples of
the coral and anemone bleaching at Kwajalein Atoll in the October and November
of 2013. DIfferent species have different tolerances to warmer water with some
bleaching sooner. In severe cases, virtually all corals will bleach and potentially
die. While the bright white and colored Heteractis magnifica anemones
can be quite striking and attractive when bleached, it is not a good state for
them. After several bleaching sessions, half or more of these long-lived anenones
have died or disappeared.
