Acropora robusta (Dana, 1846)

Acropora robusta is common on shallow seaward reefs. It is similar to what we are calling Acropora sp. 1 but has a much thicker base with solid, rounded branches in addition to areas of thinner, pointed branches.

Like most of the other corals, this species will lose its symbiotic zooxanthellae and bleach white when the water temperature at Kwajalein reaches 30°C. For more information, see the page on Porites bleaching.
