Acropora valenciennesi (Milne Edwards, 1860)

We have seen this figured as Acropora valenciennesi. It is common on shallow seaward reefs where colonies can sometimes be several meters across.

Like most of the other corals, this species will lose its symbiotic zooxanthellae and bleach white when the water temperature at Kwajalein reaches 30°C. For more information, see the page on Porites bleaching.
