Fungia spp.

This page shows a few species we have not identified as well as some juveniles.

The next one appears to be a young individual.

Sometimes when flipped upside down or stuck in a dark ledge, the soft coral tissue will balloon out. This has been shown to enable some individuals to flip themselves over when they are upside down. Perhaps it also stretches out their surface area when in the dark to efficiently capture all the limited available sunlight.

Juveniles grow on little stalks attached to the substrate, causing them to have some resemblance to mushrooms when viewed from the side. One common name for Fungiids is mushroom coral.
