Tringa stagnatilis (Bechstein, 1803)
Marsh Sandpiper

The Marsh Sandpiper is listed in Clapp (1990) as an accidental migrant, wandering to the Marshall Islands from its normal range from Africa through Asia to Australia. The individual on this page was photographed in December 2019 by Christina Sylvester in a shallow, nearly empty water tank on Kwajalein. A number of other migrant water and shorebirds were also present in the tank.

With a Northern Pintail as an indication of size.

In the photo below, a smaller Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) stands in front of the Marsh Sandpiper.
