Ascarosepion latimanus (Quoy & Gaimard, 1832)

A common and variable cuttlefish on muck sites is Ascarosepion latimanus. This species usually has yellow around the eye and often has a blue spotted fin rim. However, it is extremely variable and we sometimes find it hard to distinguish some variations from species of Acanthosepion. It is possible not all those figured below are the same species.

The one below was a particularly large individual.
