Melasti

Melasti is a site a short distance to the east of Cantik Point, well before Kuanji Skerif. When we started diving this area in 2012, Melasti was actually a different spot a couple of hundred meters east along the coast, and what is now called Melasti had a sign at the road identifying it as Petiisan Point. Sometime between then and now, the old "Melasti" is no longer used and the Petiisan sign disappeared. In any case, it is an excellent spot with lots of typical muck animals. It remains the best place to find the sought after "donut doto," Doto greenamyeri.

Same shower in 2105, but another dive staging area had been added behind it.

The original Melasti in 2012 had a different sign on the road. I remember this spot was a typical muck site off to the right of the beach, and a living reef of live coral and a lot of fish just to the left, back toward the current Melasti.

The path to the beach did a sharp dog leg turn about half way to the beach.

Papaya!

The easy way to recognize this spot was the palm tree growing by itself on the beach, even in the waves at high tide. You could still see the tree a couple hundred meters up the beach from the current Melasti.

To rinse gear, you dropped a bucket on a line down a well to bring up fresh water. It always puzzled me how there could be so much fresh water in a well right next to the ocean.
