These are common under rocks and rubble on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. This may be the species Limaria fragilis, but we have seen that name used for several of the color forms we are here treating separately. It may be that some or all of the various color forms are just variations of a single species. However, the various Limaria species are often seen in small groups, and members of those groups always or nearly always are all of like color forms, suggesting they are sorting themselves out by species. These are active clams, flapping their valves and swimming away when exposed.
