This page links to photos of clams (phylum Mollusca, class Bivalvia) that we have photographed in the Marshall Islands. Clams make up a fairly large group, and not all species from the Marshalls are figured here. We have tried to include all those that we have photographed alive and where they live but in many cases the animal "clams up" when approached and will not show itself. Eventually, we expect to add dry photos of empty shells of species we did not get to shoot in the field. Sizes recorded on the second line of many of the pages indicate the largest size of a particular species we measured, not necessarily the size of the figured individual. Many of the IDs are tentative. We welcome corrections at uwkwaj@yahoo.com.
The thumbnails below link to pages with additional, larger photographs.
Some of the species listed below, particularly the smaller ones listed as "Tellinidae sp.," may actually belong somewhere else. Additionally, we are not sure how much variation to expect in many of those species, and some of those listed may in fact be variations of species listed separately.
