Pinctada margaritifera (Linnaeus, 1758)

These are the pearl oysters. They were moderately common in both sandy and reef areas on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. Occasionally one could get a glimpse of the commensal shrimp Conchodytes meleagrinae by looking into the aperture.

Animal color could be black or red.

Juveniles.
