Lyncina propinqua (Garrett, 1879)
Neighboring
cowry, 19-40mm
Lyncina propinqua is
difficult to distinguish externally from the very similar L. carneola.
While DNA analysis reveals distinct differences between the two species, the
only real way to tell the shells apart is that L. propinqua tends to
be wider and have more angular edges than L. carneola. The discussion
under Lyncina carneola
provides more details. Like L. carneola, these seem to be found throughout
the atoll.
