Swainsonia casta (Gmelin, 1791)

Swainsonia casta is moderately uncommon to sometimes moderately common. It lives in sand on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs, usually at depths of 8 to at least 20m.

The brown band is periostracum, which sometimes wears off the white shell in life and will disappear completely if an empty shell is soaked in chlorine bleach.
