Zebina tridentata (Michaud, 1830)
11.65mm

Zebina tridentata is moderately common on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. The lower closeup of the aperture shows a couple of prominent aperture denticles. As noted by Cernohorsky (1978), the species is characterized by the "interior edge of outer lip anteriorly with 1-3 prominent denticles." The only visible difference between these shells and those of Zebina sp. 2 is the complete lack of denticles in the latter. It seems to us, however, that if Z. tridentata can vary from one to three, what is to prevent it from varying from zero to three? We suspect that the two are the same species.
