Hastula
celidonota (Melvill & Sykes, 1898)
15.7mm
Hastula
celidonota is easily
recognized by its small white shell marked with a single reddish to purplish
brown blotch on the dorsal side of the body whorl. For a couple of years around
1995, these were relatively common in seaward reef patches of fine sand. They
seemed to prefer large patches where they could stay out in the middle, well
away from the hard reef and coral bordering the sand patches. They were not
seen prior to that, and in recent years specific sand patches that used to have
quite a few specimens have had none. Only a couple of specimens have been seen
since the mid 90s.
