Giant clam - Tridacna gigas

This clam for some reason pulled its animal back from the edge of the shell on the valve at upper left. Algae colonized the exposed shell. Although the animal otherwise looks healthy, it would not extend its animal out over the algae-covered portion. However, when we returned some months later, the clam was empty. We do not know if it was fished or died of natural causes.
