Giant clam - Tridacna gigas

Even larger clams are at risk of damage from natural causes. Some time before we found this one (days or weeks), a rock had fallen down from the ledge above it, landing in the shell and skewering the animal. It obviously irritated the clam, since it was clamped down pretty tightly on the rock, preventing it from falling farther in. But that also made the rock somewhat difficult to remove. The clam appeared happier, if still somewhat injured, after the rock was taken out.
