Giant clam shell - Tridacna gigas

Previous
Next

Like the previous and next clam shells, this was one of five we discovered empty in one of our dive sites. We had not been there for a while, and it was obvious the clams were all taken some time before, almost certainly all at the same time. The oblong lump in the bottom of the empty clam shell is a living Tridacna maxima. We think it might have been collected by the fisherman, who, when he found this big one, just left behind the little one after he got the meat of the larger one out.
