Monoplex aquatilis (Reeve, 1844)
Aquatile triton,
97mm
Monoplex
aquatilis is moderately
common and can be found in a wide variety of atoll locations, including intertidally,
on shallow lagoon reefs and pinnacles, and on the seaward reef slope to depths
exceeding 60m. Like many tritons, the animal is intricately colored. Why?
Here's a younger shell with a thin
outer lip.
